Detailed design and engineering services at an existing paper mill to perform structural dynamics and vibration analysis for an existing paper machine. Vibration in a machine structure due to unbalanced forces (rotating masses) is a major challenge but can be analyzed and overcome. The objective of dynamic analysis is to analyze the behavior of a structure subjected to a forcing function, such as rotating rolls in a paper machine. This analysis was requested by the owner to investigate an ongoing balancing issue on the machine, which was causing frequent dryer can gear and bearing repairs and replacements. The scope of services included modeling the existing paper machine, machine track, and foundations with finite element analysis software and comparing the response to industry standards and on-site measurements to identify areas of concerns and recommend the path forward.
