This project included a contract for detailed design following a transition from another engineering firm at less than 10% complete; however, construction activities had already begun in the field. The scope of the project was a greenfield metallurgical coke facility with heat recovery and power generation. The project team completed the detailed design and procurement support, including incorporating significant scope changes while progressing ongoing fieldwork. The project scope included 100 metallurgical coking ovens and associated equipment and coal and coke material handling systems. Power generation equipment included five heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), a steam turbine generator, a semi-dry SO2 scrubber, and a fabric filter. In addition, the project team provided construction management support and start-up support. The facility started up faster and achieved production ramp-up quicker than any previous facility developed by our client.
