The scope consisted of detailed engineering and procurement support for a brownfield energy project at an existing paper mill. The project included a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler and double auto-extraction steam turbine generator and all associated supporting equipment (condenser, pumps, etc.). Emissions controls, consisting of an electrostatic precipitator (ESP) and circulating fluidized bed spray dryer absorber (SDA) were included. The combination boiler design allowed firing of primarily biomass resulting from papermaking process, but also scrap railroad ties and tires were among other fuels the boiler handled. The overall design also included complex material handling and processing solutions to feed the boiler. The project team provided construction management and start-up support to the field's client-led team in addition to the engineering and procurement support.
