This effort consisted of detailed design for a $20 million white liquor optimization project consisting of a new three-story pressure disc filter process building, causticizer, clarifier, and lime mud filter upgrades. A new process building was constructed in a heavy brownfield environment, which required a complex micropile and pile cap foundation design to avoid the costly removal of abandoned underground foundations. The building structure design was modified to a modular approach to accelerate the schedule and reduce erection costs. This modular approach allowed the entire upper half of the building to be safely erected in just two critical lifts. Construction was successfully completed with no significant interferences, despite clearances with existing structures being limited to less than one inch in many locations. In addition to detailed design, construction technical bid package development/evaluation was provided.
